designing

Interior design is an art and a science. An interior designer has training and knowledge of architecture and construction. We work in conjunction with Architects, Engineers and Contractors to create functional, well built and beautiful homes for our clients.  There are many technical aspects of interior design that people forget are in place when things function well, however when the design was not well thought out we wonder "what were they thinking".  Design improves the visual appearance and function of an interior space. Design elements include space, line, form, light, color, texture and pattern. The key to creating an aesthetically pleasing interior is achieved by keeping these elements balanced. The key to a functional space requires planning and knowledge of codes and appropriate design guidelines. As an interior designer I will help plan, research, coordinate, and manage projects for my clients.

Is Interior Design different from Interior Decorating?

Yes, designing is different from decorating, however much the general public interchanges them incorrectly, they are very different. The scope of services each professional is qualified to provide are vastly different and its important for you to know. An interior designer has a degree from an accredited university, they study building and safety codes and computer aided drafting and much more. They turn people's wants and needs into functional, structural living or work spaces to satisfy those demands.  Decorators furnish interior spaces with furniture and accessories, creating an aesthetic environment, they have an eye for putting things together but may have little or no formal training.  Interior designers are trained in decorating but it is only a small portion of what they can offer. A decorator with formal training does not have training in interior design. Trust me, I truly know and understand the difference. I had been in the industry as a decorator for 15 years before I went back to school to get an Interior Design degree. I thought it would be an easy degree with so many years in the field, but it was not. I learned so much more than I could have imagined there is a huge difference.
